About Signia Hearing Aid Zinc Air Batteries

Zinc-air button disposable batteries, also known as “button batteries”, are other common options. Because zinc-air batteries are air-activated, the factory-sealed sticker allows them to remain idle until removed.

Once peeled from the back of the battery, oxygen will react with the zinc in the battery and the battery will be turned on, regardless of inside the hearing aid or not. To get the best performance from a zinc-air battery, wait a minute after removing the sticker to fully activate before placing it in the listening device.

Replacing the sticker will not deactivate the battery, so once the sticker is removed, the battery will remain in the active state until the power goes out.

Zinc-air batteries remain stable for three years when stored in a room-temperature, dry environment.

There is no benefit from storing zinc-air batteries in the refrigerator and this can cause condensation under the sticker, which can reduce battery life over time.

Traditionally hearing aid batteries were manufactured using trace amounts of mercury to aid conductivity and stabilize internal components, but mercury is no longer used in hearing aid batteries.

Tips for extending Hearing Aid and Battery Life

Every year, thousands of people in India suffer from some degree of hearing loss, a mild inability to understand the conversation or experience near silence.

Many people use digital hearing aids to increase their ability to hear sounds, and with these devices comes the responsibility of making sure they work.

Often, this means using good hearing aid batteries and making sure they work. For people wearing hearing aids, it may be inconvenient to change the battery continuously.

While there are no foolproof ways to extend non-rechargeable battery life, these suggestions will ensure that power is not wasted.

However, if you know what you need to do to make your battery work and useful, you can ensure a longer work range for your hearing aid. Here are some tips to help you with high quality hearing.

    • Turn off the hearing aids when not in use and leave the battery compartment door open overnight. Not only will this help protect battery power from being wasted, it will allow any moisture that will evaporate overnight from day to day use.
    • Keep a battery tab when not in use, especially if you use a zinc-air battery. Removing the tab causes oxygen in the air to contact the zinc, triggering the battery. Leaving a tab on an unused battery can eliminate it.
    • To get optimal performance from your battery, always store them at room temperature. Heat exposure and moist environments such as bathrooms will reduce battery life.
    • Always carry additional hearing aid batteries. On average, normal hearing aid batteries last about two weeks. The smaller the battery, the less power it has.
    • In addition, batteries should not be kept loose in a pocket, a purse, or a backpack, where they may come into contact with other metal objects such as coins or keys that may short-circuit the hearing aid battery.
    • Therefore, if you travel often or stay away from home for long periods of time, it is advisable to always use hearing aid batteries so that you can change as needed.
